How to Care for and Store Your Microfiber Towels

Best car drying towel

In case you haven’t seen part 1, we’ve talked about everything you need to know about Microfiber Towels. For more insights jump to: best car drying towel

Before I tell you about the washing processes I want to remind you about how to properly store and pre-wash your towels.

After use the towels must be separated by function, 600GSM towels that were used to remove polishers should be together, while the 200GSM towels that were used to polish exhaust should be together, however, well away from 600GSM towels.

How to do this? I suggest that you separate 2 to 3 buckets for you to put the towels right after use, separating by weight and level of dirt.

Pre-wash

The pre-wash process must be done on all towels, with which you can quickly release the oil from the towel.

With the towels together put a little warm water with a good towel detergent (very little). This process will loosen the towel oils a little and make the washing machine easier to work with.

In the dirtiest towels I do two washes in the machine, the first with just water and the second with the products, why ?? See the color of the water in the first wash of the dirtiest towels.

Washing

The towels are already pre-washed and ready for the washing process, so we will have a great partner: the washing machine .

We recommend using only 2 types of product to wash your microfiber towels, first a special detergent to clean microfiber towels (this must be used with your special towels, those that you have invested a bundle in the purchase and that are worth every penny !! - in this example I used Microlav , but you can use both Chemical Guys and Cadillac's Soft Fiber ( everyone can handle it ), and finally a special laundry detergent without fabric softener , we recommend that you use liquid coconut soap (this should be used in the most basic and simple towels, with low weight).

Never use fabric softeneron your towels, as they cover the risks of microfiber and take away its absorbing power.

Also, no bleach should be used, they are very aggressive and will damage the fibers. On the other hand, it is recommended to use a glass of white alcohol vinegar during the rinse process to remove detergent residues that may remain on your towels. Vinegar is also a natural softener, it will help you keep your towels always as soft as the day you bought them.

These are the best known Microfiber cleaners on the market, they don't cost much and they make the towels last much longer!

Drying

The best way to dry the microfiber towel is on a clothesline in the shade, this is because the Polyester that is part of the towel is super sensitive to temperature and can “melt” if you use the heat drying process of the centrifuge.

In 6 to 12h drying the shade your towels will be perfect and ready to be stored.

We recommend that you leave your towels to dry overnight so that they are perfect the next day.
